About Us

Why BrainFITT Exists

BrainFITT was born from love, science, and the belief that every person deserves to feel strong, sharp, and seen — no matter their age or cognitive stage.

I created BrainFITT for my mom, who lives with vascular dementia. I wanted to give her more than just care — I wanted to give her a chance:

  • A chance to move with purpose.

  • A chance to stay connected to herself.

  • A chance to hold onto her independence.

From Personal to Professional

As a Practicing Kinesiologist and Personal Trainer, I already understood the power of movement. But when dementia touched my family, I knew I needed to go deeper.

That’s why I am now advancing my education in Brain Health Training through Ryan Glatt, Director of the FitBrain Program at the Pacific Neuroscience Institute, earning my Functional Aging Specialist certification from the Functional Aging Institute, studying Applied Neuroscience through Z-Health Performance Solutions, and completing the Neurological Rehabilitation Microcredential at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.

I didn’t build BrainFITT as a business—I built it as a solution.

A solution for my mom, for families like mine, and for anyone who wants to stay strong, sharp, and independent as they age.

Meet Kim

Hi, I’m Kim Shepherd — a movement nerd, brain health advocate, and daughter to the most inspiring woman I know.

With over 20 years of experience as a Personal Trainer — and nearly a decade as a Practicing Kinesiologist — I’ve helped people move better, feel stronger, and live fuller lives. In this time, I launched a pre- and postnatal fitness business, which I later expanded into a focus on women’s health and pelvic health across the lifespan. I’ve also worked extensively at a private health club — including supporting clients with joint replacements, chronic pain, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and age-related changes.

Through these experiences, I’ve had the privilege of guiding people of all ages and stages—from new moms rebuilding core strength and navigating pelvic health concerns, to older adults improving mobility, balance & stability, and adapting to memory changes with compassion and confidence.

What all those years taught me is simple but powerful: movement is medicine. And now, through BrainFITT, I bring that same expertise to brain health and aging — helping people stay strong, sharp, and independent through programs that blend compassion with cutting-edge science.

BrainFITT isn’t just my work — it’s my heart project. And I’m so glad you’re here.

Our Philosophy

BrainFITT blends neuroscience, movement, and aging expertise into programs that support memory, coordination, and confidence.

We believe in:

  • Compassion over perfection

  • Progress over pressure

  • Dignity in every step

Whether you're exploring for yourself or a loved one, BrainFITT is here to support you — with science, heart, and hope.

Stay sharp. Stay strong. Stay you.

Our Approach

At BrainFITT, we believe movement is medicine — not just for the body, but for the brain, the spirit, and the sense of self.

We focus on:

  • Neuro-informed movement → every exercise stimulates the brain while strengthening the body — supporting memory, focus, and executive function.

  • Functional fitness for real life → training for everyday tasks like walking, reaching, and balancing to stay independent.

  • Compassionate coaching → we lead with empathy, not intensity.

  • Progress over perfection → small wins build lasting change.

BrainFITT isn’t just exercise. It’s a way to reclaim clarity, confidence, and connection — one step at a time.
